Every five levels you will unlock another territory for free. The upgrade does not need to be activated (nor can you choose to wait to upgrade,) as soon as you level up and return home you can pick a new territory section. This comes with another two strategic points that make up to 5 coins and another place you have to defend. This means increased income, but also means you have to spend more on defense, which can outweigh the increased income. However, the natural level up process means that you also unlock better defenses which can outperform multiple defenses, meaning it usually comes with greater cost efficiency as well. Attacking should be your primary source of income anyways, as you can usually average about 15-20 coins per territory beat.
